Jen Taylor is an Education Programs Consultant in the Expanded Learning Division for the California Department of Education (CDE) in Sacramento, California. She currently provides support to expanded learning programs within Sacramento County and the nine surrounding counties. In addition to coaching programs through the lens of quality, Jen leads the System of Support for Expanded Learning project. The System of Support for Expanded Learning is a statewide network of County Offices of Education, statewide contractors, and the CDE that provide support to expanded learning programs across California.

Jen’s journey at the CDE started in 2006 as a member of the School/Law Enforcement Partnership, a joint partnership between the CDE and the California Department of Justice. Over the course of her career at CDE, Jen has worked on multiple programs including the federally-funded School Improvement Grants Program providing support to the lowest- performing schools in California, the Public Charter Schools Grant Program, Title I-Part A, and other related programs.

She has worked on numerous committees and has held multiple leadership roles at the state level, including the System of Support for Expanded Learning Design Team, California STEAM Symposium Steering Committee, and the School Conditions and Climate Work Group. In 2017, Jen participated in the Systems Leadership Work with the Society for Organizational Learning. The foundational skill of building relationships has been a thread that has supported her work within all systems and she is excited to continue this journey with the master practitioner cohort with the Center for Systems Awareness.

Jen holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento. Jen resides in Sacramento with her partner and two children. In her free time enjoys staying active and supporting youth activities, including being an assistant basketball coach, girl scout co-leader, and mentor.
